Description
Bookcase, wood and borosilicate glass
Querini is born from the meeting of four elements that define Venice: architecture, water, light and glass. From this dialogue takes shape a bookcase that interprets the Venetian character through matter and composition, where proportion, rhythm and lightness find a natural balance.
The borosilicate glass supports are shaped to hold a subtle, rhythmic deformation that evokes the gibigiana, the characteristic play of light on the surface of Venice’s water. The result is a shifting relationship between transparency and reflection, one that changes with every shift of light in the room.
The succession of shelf heights echoes the rhythm of the façades that line the Grand Canal. As in Venetian architecture, where solids and voids define proportioned sequences, the composition of the wooden shelves creates a visual balance of intervals, proportion and movement.
The dialogue between the warmth of the wood and the transparency of the glass expresses a balance between solidity and lightness, rigour and fluidity, precision and craftsmanship. The precision of the design meets the singularity of the making, giving life to an object in which function and formal research coexist.
The name Querini pays homage to the Biblioteca Querini Stampalia, an emblematic place of Venetian culture where tradition and contemporary life meet. The project interprets its spirit through a contemporary object, in which memory, matter and design converse in balance.
